Make it 200 for Twaddle.

Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball coach Ryan Twaddle earned his 200th career victory with the Chargers’ 79-61 win over Lincoln Land on Wednesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers (11-2) celebrated the milestone by dousing their coach with water on the court after a wire-to-wire win over the Loggers (3-8).

KEY MOMENTS

  • Up 13-6 in the first half, Sandburg put together a 9-0 run to open a 16-point lead. Freshman forward Lane Ippensen (LaPrairie, Ill./Camp Point Central) had a reverse layup and turnaround jumper during the stretch, and the Chargers took a 41-22 lead into halftime.
  • Lincoln Land pulled within 45-36 with 14:00 left, but the Chargers answered with 11 of the next 15 points, capped by a 3-pointer from freshman guard Brock Bower-Preece (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs).

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Twaddle reached his 200th victory — all at Sandburg — in his 13th season as the Chargers’ coach, improving to 200-186. The Sandburg alumnus guided the Chargers to their first NJCAA Division II national tournament in 2014 after winning the program’s first Region IV tournament title, and in 2018 he led Sandburg to its first Arrowhead Conference championship in 28 years.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Freshman Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) notched his first double-double as a Charger with team-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson went 5 of 13 from the field, 6 of 7 from the free-throw line and grabbed five offensive boards.
  • Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) scored a season-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting and blocks three shots.
  • Sophomore Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) scored 10 and had four assists.
  • Making his first career start, Bower-Preece had nine points on the strength of a 3-for-5 night from long range, pulled in four rebounds, had two assists and picked up two steals.

FOR THE LOGGERS

  • Keon Jones 26 points, eight rebounds
  • Jordan Brooks 12 points
